About Chipr

CHeesey Internet Picture Ripper (CHIPR)

Current Version is 1.0

You Can Download the program by clicking here: CHIPR Program

What is it?
Chipr is a picture/file ripping program that is safe to use on most sites.

There are many programs that do that, why did you make it?
Most of the site ripping programs and download managers use multiple threads. Meaning they connect to a site multiple times to speed up downloading. While this is good for the user, it has a negative impact on the site. I have run across several sites that state "Do not use a download manager or you will be banned." or "Download 1 file at a time, or else you will be banned.". Problem is they have 12 files that I want, and it means I have to sit in front of my computer waiting for each to complete. So I created this little program to solve those problems. It only opens one connection to the site, and downloads one file at a time.

Is there any plans to make a multi-threaded version?
Nope. See above.

Why is it called Cheesey Internet Picture Ripper?
It's just a little application I whipped up to solve an inconvenience I was having. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.

Do you know that you spelled Cheesey wrong - it should be Cheesy?
Yup. But Cheesey looks better :)

How it works:

When the program first starts up, you will see the above form.

URL: This is the full URL (Web Address) to the page you want to rip files from (ie http://www.ken-ki.net/ )

Save Directory: This is where you want to save the files.

The Header box is for storing additional headers to pass to the site. Such as Cookies to access a forum. You can select multiple headers by holding the control or shift keys while selecting headers.

Add Header: Pops up a requester to fill out to add a header. The header box stores the header as: label~header. For example: StupidHeader~Cookie:Text=ThisIsAStupidCookie.

Delete Header: Deletes selected headers.

GO: Start the ripping process.

The Settings tab

Configuring the options in the Settings tab.

Additional Extentions: This will allow the program to recognize additional filetypes beyond picture formats.

Duplicate Counter Placement: Location of the counter if a file already exsists. For example you download pictures named 01.jpg through 09.jpg. Chances are these will be duplicated many times. The 000_ option puts the counter before the filenames (001_01.jpg) and the second option puts it after the filename, but before the extention (01_001.jpg). The advantage of having it placed before the filename, is that it keeps picture groupings together when the directory is sorted by filename.

Right Click Menu: This allows you to build a small custom right click menu that you can access while viewing the thumbnails. The "Menu Label" is what is displayed when you right click, and the "Program to launch when menu item selected:" is the program that is launched when the label is selected. In this example the 2 menu items are a text/hex editor, and a picture editor.

Set Defaults: Records your options, and will reload them when the program is launched again. Options will be lost when you quit the program unless this button is pressed.

Selection Screen

After GO is pressed on the Main screen, selection screen appears

Selection Window: This is where you choose which files to grab. Use the CTRL key to select mulitiple files, or the SHIFT key to select a series of files.

View Source: Shows you the source of the downloaded page that the links were extracted from.

Prefix for files: This allows you to add a prefix to the files you have selected. This comes in handy when several files are named the same, but come from different subdirectories. For example If you select only the images in the "powered" directory and put "powered-" in the prefix for files, then it would seperate the files from the rest (ie: powered-vi.gif)

Rip the Pictures: This will start the ripping process.

Status Screen

Status of the process

Tabs Status and Set1...Setx: The status tab shows you the current status of the process, the filename from the web site, and the filename it was saved as. The Set x tab(s) allow you to view thumbnails of the downloaded files (see below).

Abort: Stops the process after the current file completes.

Set x Tabs

These are the thumbnails of the files you selected to download

Each tab contains 15 thumbnail images.

Hovering over an image will reveal the saved filename.

Left clicking an image will view that image in your default picture viewer.

Right clicking an image will present a small menu of programs that you configured in the settings page. Other menu items include options to delete the picture or delete all pictures with errors (They will be marked with an images that says "File is not a Picture" - non picture files will not be effected by this option).

When you close this screen (by hitting the X in the upper right corner), you will be taken back to the selection screen.
